Technology Questions

Where can I get my IU related technology questions answered?
The University Information Technology Services compiles a database of frequently asked questions called the Knowledge Base, where common questions such as how to connect to the Internet at IU and "ComputerGuide" of recommendations and common questions. IUWare is the website listing the free or reduced-cost software available to IU students, faculty, and staff.


What are Technology Fees?
Technology Fees are collected by the School to pay for several technology benefits for SLIS students. These include email accounts, unlimited Internet Service, Computer Labs, and more. For more information on Technology Fees and other Mandatory Fees, visit the IUPUI Office of the Bursar Website.


Is there much technology at SLIS?
The University Library at IUPUI is one of the nation's leading examples of a modern computer-based library network and student work center. Computer labs are provided to support SLIS courses in such areas as networking, library automation, digital libraries, and web design. Several SLIS courses involving video production and multimedia are taught through modern facilities at award-winning school sites.


Why am I required to join the SLIS-Indy Listserv?
It is very important that you join the listserv if you are admitted to SLIS at Indianapolis. Through this listserv you will receive notification of schedules well in advance of registration deadlines as well as changes in the schedules from those printed in the university catalogues. Notice of presentations, special events on campus, as well as any traffic problems will be posted on this listserv. Issues concerning changes that you as a student feel should be made to improve SLIS at Indianapolis will also be discussed.


Should I join the SLIS-L Listserv?
You may join the SLIS-L Listserv at any time, however it is not necessary for students who are only taking classes on the Indianapolis or other satellite campuses. SLIS-L is designed for students taking classes on the Bloomington Campus. Important information from Bloomington or from the central university administration at any campus will be forwarded for distribution to SLIS-Indy.


Why should I set up an IUPUI email account?
According to university policy, the e-mail address established with the university is the official path for communication concerning academic issues. If you have not done so already, please add your IUPUI e-mail address to the SLIS-Indy listserv. This can be done in addition to the personal e-mail account you may have used to subscribe. SLIS IUPUI faculty and administration should also try to respond to student communications using the IUPUI e-mail address. If the reply is to a student's personal account, the IUPUI e-mail address should be copied if possible.
