About SLIS Indianapolis

The Indiana University School of Library and Information Science (IU SLIS) Indianapolis, along with the Bloomington campus, is the only American Library Association accredited program in the state. Full re-accreditation was granted in 2005 to continue through 2012.

In 2006, IU SLIS ranked #1 in the nation in research productivity. In U.S. News & World Report's 2008 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools, IU SLIS was ranked #7 overall among national library and information studies institutions, #4 in law librarianship, and #8 in digital librarianship, information systems, and school library media programs.

SLIS Indianapolis offers the Master of Library Science (MLS) degree as well as courses for completion of school media and public librarianship certification, joint degree programs with Law, Philanthropic Studies, Health Informatics, History, specialization in Technology Management, and certification in public or nonprofit management with SPEA. Courses for the completion of these degrees may be taken at both the Bloomington and Indianapolis classes. The Indianapolis program has responsibility for development and delivery of SLIS graduate courses through distance education including the use of the Virtual Indiana Classroom, OnCourse and the Internet.

SLIS Indianapolis is uniquely situated to provide professional growth opportunities in nearly every area of librarianship. The Indianapolis metro area is home to corporations, law firms, health institutions, public and private schools, and a large network of public and special libraries.
