Indianapolis Youth Literature Conference

On Saturday, January 31, 2009, the Indianapolis Youth Literature Conference will be held at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Scheduled presenters at this exciting conference are:
- BRIAN SELZNICK. Mr. Selznick is the author and illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret. This ground-breaking novel won the 2008 Caldecott Award and was listed as a top ten choice on the 2008 Best Books for Young Adults, both sponsored by the American Library Association. This book has also received numerous other awards, including the 2007 Quill Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award. In addition to authoring and illustrating other books, Selznick has illustrated a number of award winning books including Frindle, written by Andrew Clements and Riding Freedom and Amelia and Eleanor Go for a Ride, both written by Pam Munoz Ryan.
- NIKKI GRIMES. The winner of the 2006 National Council of Teachers of English Award for Excellence in Poetry for Children, Ms. Grimes has also written numerous books including the ALA Notable book, What is Goodbye?, the 2003 Coretta Scott King Author Award winner Bronx Masquerade, and Coretta Scott King Author Honor Books, Jazmin's Notebook (and Bank Street College Book of the Year), Talkin' About Bessie, Dark Sons, and The Road to Paris. Her newest extraordinary book of poetry for young people is Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope.
- SUE CORBETT. Author of the 2008-2009 Young Hoosier Book Award intermediate level nominee, Free Baseball, Ms. Corbett provides a fast-moving story that interweaves baseball with a multicultural edge to offer much more than just a book for a sports fan. Recognized by award lists in Virginia, Maryland, and Rhode Island, this book is a 2006 Junior Library Guild selection. Corbett has also written 12 Again, an International Reading Association Honor Book and a California Young Readers Medal winner. Her most recently published work is "Fall Ball", a short story in Baseball Crazy: Ten Short Stories that Cover All the Bases, edited by Nancy Mercado.
- Numerous concurrent sessions will also be offered.
